Mystery the Dragon

Fall 2020????? Fourth Grade

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Eliza and she went backpacking up a mountain for a legendary treasure. They said that you have to face a fierce dragon named Drago. Apparently there was a rockslide down a mountain that was covering the mouth of a large cave. After the rockslide, there was a little opening to the cave. Eliza sneaked into the cave. Inside the cave, there was a large egg in a nest.

The egg had a crack in it and was moving. Eliza thought that maybe a rock fell on the egg and cracked it. But no, there she saw a small dragon wing pop out. More limbs popped out one by one, then the top of the egg flew off revealing a white and blue baby dragon. Eliza looked around the cave for another dragon all she saw was large dragon bones. Then she realized the mother died protecting her child and starved to death because she didn?t want to leave her egg unprotected.

The baby dragon started to nip at Eliza?s clothes. She put down the dragon and opened her backpack. The baby dragon smelled food in her backpack. Eliza brought out some raw chicken from her backpack. The dragon coughed and the cave lit up with a ball of fire. She picked up the dragon and put it behind her chicken. The baby dragon coughed again with a poof of smoke, the chicken was cooked and they had a tasty meal.

Eliza realized she needed to name the dragon. She decided to name it Mystery. Eliza put Mystery in her backpack and started down the mountain looking for areas to step without causing rocks to fall. She saw a branch sticking out the mountain. Eliza threw the rope at the branch and it hooked on! Eliza swung across onto another rocky ledge she grabbed her rope and ran down the mountain and back to her village.

Eliza snuck Mystery into her bed. She searched for something to cover Mystery with, she heard her door handle rattling. She threw her bed covers over Mystery and opened her door. Eliza?s mom came in and asked what she was doing. Eliza said she was making her bed. Eliza?s dog came bursting through the door barking at Eliza?s bed.

I will plan on using the dragon to get to the treasures on the top of the mountain. The third month of having Mystery Eliza raced through her village with Mystery flying above her to the mountain. She hopped onto Mystery?s back and flew to the top of the mountain.

Eliza watched birds and clouds fly past her. Mystery wasn’t a full grow dragon but he was still pretty big. Eliza drew out her sword, shooed away the heavy mist, and cut up some vines blocking her way.

A gigantic green and yellow dragon blocked Eliza?s path to the Astronomer?s stone. Legends say the Astronomer?s stone grants you wishes only at night when the stars are out and will turn stone into gold and iron into steel.

Eliza and Mystery fought hard and well then came out on the other side, grabbing the stone. Eliza jumped off the mountain and Mystery swooped up and caught her. They rode back to the village, treasure clutched in their hands.
